Description

In several of her sly self-portraits, the artist Cara Tierney appears just once; in others she has replicated herself many times, playing all the parts in digitally-constructed tableaux set in the studio, the city, and the countryside. Her photographs call into question fixed (either/or) categories of gender and sexuality, while proposing personal identity as comprised of a motley crew of many different selves. She creates and inhabits new "gender geometries" in her work, and in the world.
